Welcome to Hardwick House
Bed and Breakfast in Shrewsbury, Shropshire
Built in the early 18th Century, Hardwick House is one of the finest Georgian houses in Shrewsbury. Grade II* listed, it is situated in the premier residential street at the very heart of the historic town centre. Although only a few steps away from the High Street, Hardwick House has a rural feel. Indeed it has been described by Pevsner as “more like a country house than a house in town”.
The house is set in a beautiful garden with a magnificent, 18th-century summerhouse. Guests are welcome to relax in this tranquil setting and use Hardwick House as a base from which to explore and enjoy Shrewsbury – its fine architecture, mediaeval streets, and superb shopping. The fine Quarry park, the meandering river Severn, and Shrewsbury School perched above its banks are around the corner. There is a good choice of excellent restaurants and pubs nearby.
Hardwick House is exceptionally well located for all Shrewsbury’s main attractions and cultural events – the famous Flower Show, the Theatre Severn, the Folk Festival, Darwin’s birthplace, the Abbey, the Castle and much more.
Lucy and Giles offer you a warm welcome into their family home in this quiet, yet central location.
There are two handsome and spacious double bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom. The Oak bedroom with Georgian Oak panelling and the elegant painted Acorn bedroom can be arranged with either twin beds or a super-king-sized double bed. In both rooms you will enjoy white cotton bed linen, TV and tea/coffee-making facilities. Wireless internet is available. A twin bedroom adjoining the Acorn room and sharing the same bathroom can be made available to form a larger suite for family or friends.
On arrival Lucy will provide you with home-made cake or biscuits, which you are welcome to enjoy either in the summerhouse in the garden, or in the comfort of your room.
A delicious breakfast is provided in the superb oak-panelled dining room with a traditional cooked breakfast, freshly-baked bread, home-made jam and marmalade, cereals, muesli, yoghurts and fruit. We only use the best fresh locally-sourced produce and, where possible, ensure it is free-range or organic. Special dietary requirements can be catered for on request.
