Built in the early 18th Century, Hardwick House is one of the finest Georgian houses in Shrewsbury. Grade II* listed, it is situated in the premier residential street at the very heart of the historic town centre. Although only a few steps away from the High Street, Hardwick House has a rural feel. Indeed it has been described by Pevsner as “more like a country house than a house in town”.
The house is set in a beautiful garden with a magnificent, 18th-century summerhouse. Guests are welcome to relax in this tranquil setting and use Hardwick House as a base from which to explore and enjoy Shrewsbury – its fine architecture, mediaeval streets, and superb shopping. The fine Quarry park, the meandering river Severn, and Shrewsbury School perched above its banks are around the corner. There is a good choice of excellent restaurants and pubs nearby.
Hardwick House is exceptionally well located for all Shrewsbury’s main attractions and cultural events – the famous Flower Show, the Theatre Severn, the Folk Festival, Darwin’s birthplace, the Abbey, the Castle and much more.

There are two handsome and spacious double bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom. The Oak bedroom with Georgian Oak panelling and the elegant painted Acorn bedroom can be arranged with either twin beds or a super-king-sized double bed. In both rooms you will enjoy white cotton bed linen, TV and tea/coffee-making facilities. Wireless internet is available. A twin bedroom adjoining the Acorn room and sharing the same bathroom can be made available to form a larger suite for family or friends.
On arrival Lucy will provide you with home-made cake or biscuits, which you are welcome to enjoy either in the summerhouse in the garden, or in the comfort of your room.
A delicious breakfast is provided in the superb oak-panelled dining room with a traditional cooked breakfast, freshly-baked bread, home-made jam and marmalade, cereals, muesli, yoghurts and fruit. We only use the best fresh locally-sourced produce and, where possible, ensure it is free-range or organic. Special dietary requirements can be catered for on request.
